Do you want to participate in sports, make a difference in your community or enjoy helping others? Special Olympics brings people together, changes lives and gives hope. Become a Volunteer, Athlete, Partner, Coach and join the fun!!

Become A Young Athlete

The Young Athletes program is an innovative sports/play program designed to introduce children, ages 2½ ; to 7, with intellectual disabilities, to the world of sports at an early age. The group meets at least once a week to engage in fun, physical activities.

Under 8 Can't Wait

For children under the age of 8 and "can't wait" to begin sports training, we offer the Under 8 Can't Wait program.  Athletes train in regularly scheduled practice sessions and are eligible to compete in Area-Level competitions.

Become an Athlete

Special Olympics athletes are over the age of 8 who want to compete in Special Olympics events. They will learn different sports, learn new skills, be part of a team, make new friends and have fun!

Become a Unified Partner

Team sports bring people together. Imagine young people with and without an intellectual disability committed to making a difference in their schools and communities through Special Olympics. Special Olympics Unified Sports® teams do that, too and much more, breaking down stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities in a really fun way.

Become a Volunteer

Gilbert Roadrunners depends on and succeeds due to the time, energy, dedication and commitment of volunteers throughout the

state. Gilbert Roadrunners help provide year-round sports training, athletic competition,

and fundraising events for our athletes with intellectual disabilities. Opportunities on

a local level include Coaches, Chaperones, Fundraisers and Unified Partners.  Volunteers are always welcome to join event-planning committees as well.

Become a Coach

Coaches are a critical component of Special Olympics’ work. Coaches serve as role models and character builders, giving Special Olympics athletes awareness of their worth, ability, courage and capacity to grow and improve. The organization has a bold plan to have many more athletes, and that means we’ll need more coaches.  If you have an interest or background in being a coach, we need your energy and your time to help bring out the best in someone else.

Help Support the Team!

We hold different fundraising events throughout the year such as car washes, shred-a-thoms, garage sales, etc.

Information is shared during practices.
